To Schedule or Not To Schedule, That Is The Question

With my own children, I was more of a "fly by the seat of your pants" mother.  If they were hungry, they ate.  If they were tired, they slept.  Eventually we fell into rhythms that worked for all of us.

Not so with Baby Boo-Bear.

I don't know why, but she is a difficult child to find a rhythm.  Mumma has been pulling her hair out trying to get her to sleep through the night.  Mumma always has liked her sleep - contrary to other young adults her age, she was generally in bed at an early time.

I don't go out much with her.  It's that whole 2-door Jeep thing.  Ever try putting an infant car seat in the back of a Wrangler?  Not fun.  Nor is getting it out once you've arrived somewhere.  If I had a minivan or one of my other four-door cars it would be a different story.  But the Wrangler? pfft

You'd think with generally coming to Nana's house she'd find a good rhythm to her day.  Not happening.  Boo Bear has a mind all her own.  "She should be on a schedule" Mumma says.  Yes, that would be nice.  We start out each day the same.  She comes over around 6:30am.  By 7:30, the latest, she's usually ready for a nap.  Sometimes she sleeps 20 minutes.  Sometimes she sleeps 3 hours.  Go figure.

Feed her breakfast.  Umm... yeah.  She's not hungry at 6:30 cause Mumma just fed her.  If she takes a short nap, great.  If it's a long one, well it's more like lunch.  She still needs her bottle, so give her that first.  Yah, well, she's really liking this food now, so she'd rather have that than the bottle, so here goes a battle of the wills.  By the time we have that sorted out, we're at noon (Nana always wins, by the way).  Mumma picks her up around 3.  Two meals in that time?  Um, no.

Let's not even talk about the days I have to go somewhere because then, all bets are off. Today was one of those days.  Fell asleep in the car 5 minutes before we got where I had to go and again 5 minutes before we got home.  Now playing "I'm flipping myself over but I hate to sleep on my stomach so I'll cry every time so Nana gets up and flips me back."  That's right, no real nap yet and it's almost 1:30.

It will be nice when we have achieved a routine, or a schedule.  Believe me, Nana would like that very much as well.

Adventures in Babydom

My days of babies were behind me.  Partial hysterectomy, youngest of five is a teenager, yep it's ME time.  Bought a Jeep Wrangler - 2 door - cause I'm not hauling kids around anymore.  Let the fun begin.

Then one of my daughters announces she's pregnant.

Ah yes, I remember that time myself.  I was a bit older than her.  Regardless, my mother stepped up and watched my babies for me when I worked.  It's just what we do as a family.

I wouldn't trade these moments with my boo-bear for anything else in the world.

It's just that Nana needs coffee.
